We should all be really happy that Johan and his team are not only dedicated to their products, but that they are also located in NY. It’s about time the overland community got some East Coast love!
After looking at other options that were all located out West, I began to get disheartened because when you factored in shipping and installation, the pricing was getting ridiculous. In addition, I wasn’t relishing the prospect of driving cross-country and back just for a camper. Needless to say I was really happy when I found Gomammut. Johan was very accommodating to all my questions and after speaking directly with him several times, I decided to purchased their Bunker camper. It was installed in August 2024 by his install team at Xtreme 4x4 on Long Island. Shout out to them as they did a great job. Since then it has seen a number of trips and has performed flawlessly. It includes details like lighting, windows, molle panels and insulation that were all expensive upgrades on the other brands. Gomammut has put together a really nice product that so far has stood up to off-road abuse without an issue. I think this will be a game changer for those of us out East, and a superior option to some of the west coast brands I've researched. Let them drive out here for a change!
The only cons are a thin mattress. While I think this is a common issue across manufacturers, not all overlanders are 20 years old. Bad backs and hips are a real thing. FYI the Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Double is a perfect replacement. There are also a few minor rough edges but as this product is brand new to the market, I’m very confident that Johan and his team will smooth out those details in time.
As I am only 1 month into ownership, I gave the Bunker Camper 4 stars simply because I have very limited data to work with. I plan on beating this up pretty good over the course of the year and if it holds up, it’s an easy 5 stars for me. Happy to be part of the Gomammut team!
